The company Games Workshop:

The company was founded in England in 1976 and has shaped the world of tabletops for many years. In the 1980s, Games Workshop focused on the young adult and teenage demographic, leading to great success and breakthrough. Since then, the Games Workshop brand has been growing steadily worldwide. Games Workshop mainly focuses on the production of plastic miniatures, game rules and hobby products such as modeling paints, brushes and general hobby accessories. The tabletop systems from Games Workshop impress with their complexity and the profound fluff (background). A dense web of exciting stories has been woven through many hundreds of novels, and these novels appear in Games Workshop's Black Library. The largest tabletop systems from Games Workshop are Warhammer 40,000 (Warhammer 40k for short) and Age of Sigmar, plus many small ancillary systems from the fantasy and sci-fi genres, as well as board games.

Games Workshop brands

Games Workshop's most successful brand is Warhammer 40k, a sci-fi tabletop based on large armies set in the bleak future of mankind. Different races of aliens (xenos), such as the aggressive Orcs, the agile Aeldari, the slave hunters of the Drukhari or the omnivorous swarm of Tyranids fight for dominance in the galaxy. The Chaos factions primarily include corrupted Imperial soldiers, various Chaos Space Marine Chapters and the small to large demons of the four Chaos Gods. The Empire of Mankind itself consists of various factions and Space Marine Chapters.

The second notable tabletop from Games Workshop is Age of Sigmar, which was Warhammer Fantasy until 2015, which appeared in a total of eight editions. Age of Sigmar itself is a larger battle based fantasy tabletop in which many different races are classified into four main factions. Factions include, Order (Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Seraphon, Fyreslayer, Idoneth etc.), Chaos (Khorne Bloodbound, Chaos Demons, Maggotkin, Hedonites of Slaanesh), Destruction (Orruk Warclans, Ogors, Gloomspite Gitz) and Death (Vampires , Soulblight, Flesheater Courts, Nighthaunt). Age of Sigmar, or AoS, is played with slightly fewer models than Warhammer 40k and is slightly less complex, making it more suitable for beginners.

Games Workshop's ancillary systems also include well-known brands such as Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. These tabletop systems play in the world of J. R. R. Tolkien and reproduce the well-known battles from the films, such as the Battle of Helm's Deep or the Battle of Pelennor, for which there is also a starter set with two factions. Within this system there are also rules and campaign books to recreate many scenes from the movies on the gaming table and experience them in role-playing form.

The smaller systems from Games Workshop also have to be mentioned, such as Necromunda, a campaign tabletop with small gangs fighting underground in huge cities. Individual members can gain skills, get injured, or even die.

With Blood Bowl, Games Workshop has created a board game / tabletop hybrid in which different fantasy teams compete against each other and play a very bloody version of football. As with Necromunda, players can rank up and get injured. A Blood Bowl league is one of the most grueling experiences in the world of tabletops

Aeronautica Imperialis and Adeptus Titanicus are smaller scale tabletops set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. In which aviators of different races and factions engage in air battles or giant titans of the empire face off against their enemies of chaos.

With Warhammer Kill Team and Warcry, Games Workshop has created two brands for entry into the world of Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar, both systems introduce the players to the world of tabletops with small groups of fighters

Why play Tabletop?

Many hobbyists found their way into the hobby of collecting, crafting, painting and playing with great armies of miniatures and Game Workshop's many products. The notable aspect of Games Workshop is the stunning design of the fantastic miniatures and related models. Also on offer are the instructions and rulebooks, as well as other fascinating resin accessories and kits; Games Workshop offers a great, if not enormous, incentive to get more involved with this hobby and to spark a new passion out of it.

In our increasingly digital world, an analog hobby like tabletop is a great alternative. In addition to the artistic and creative aspects such as painting and building tabletop figures, there is also the playful aspect in which you are gathered at a table with one or more opponents.
