Übersetzungstypen Textübersetzung Ausgangstext 4.394 / 5.000 Übersetzungsergebnisse Vargheists are the manifested darkness in a vampire's soul. They are towering, winged humanoids, each several times the size of a human. Though the Vargheists once walked and talked as lords of possessions, these cursed-born vampires have evolved into ravenous predators, desperate for a taste of blood. They roam the battlefield in packs, ready to pounce at the slightest sign of weakness and tear through the enemy ranks with crimson claws and bloodied fangs.

The creation of a Vargheist is a strange metamorphosis that takes place far from the eyes of mortals. Beneath the Von Carsteins' sprawling castles are vast subterranean networks of cellars, galleries and dining rooms with vaulted ceilings extending into the pitch-dark atmosphere above. In this realm of former glory takes place the dark birth of the Vargheists.

Once these haunted halls were places of grandeur and generosity, scenes of dark speeches, meat banquets, and epic displays of privilege. Now they are little more than ancient cemeteries filled with the debris of an ancient aristocracy. Moth-eaten curtains and tapestries hang like moss curtains from the damp walls. Embroidered carpets and bone mosaics are obscured by inches of tainted and brackish water seeping from the cursed lands above. Broken harpsichords lean drunkenly against cloth-bound statues of ancient gods; Shattered carriages and rotting palanquins pile among haunted portraits and magical relics stolen from conquered civilizations. Among the mounds of priceless knick-knacks, chain-bound coffins and carved sarcophagi nestle like dolls in a rotting pile of wood. If a random visitor approached these coffins and the carpet of dust blew away, you could just make out the name "VON CARSTEIN", carved in baroque letters on artistic tendrils of stone.

Not all of these coffins are empty, for it is in this hidden realm that the Von Carsteins imprison those of their family who have fallen from grace. Those who underperform in the vampires' endless power struggles are often buried prematurely, at the mercy of their own unrelenting thirst. Slowly, over the decades, the perpetually dripping water - magically tainted with warpstone in the stalactites above us - finds its way into the prisons of these unfortunate ones. Sluggish for lack of fresh blood, the slumbering vampires begin to evolve and shift form, growing larger and more beastly, while the diluted dark magic that washes around them gives them terrible strength.

As the transformation from humanoid to monster takes place, the muscular Vargheist will struggle to break open his stone prison. The creature sheds its chains, unfurls its leathery wings, and rears into the darkness, releasing a terrifying scream of rage and betrayal that sends great swarms of bats whirling through the cavernous chambers. The shattered remains of his sarcophagus fall away, leaving the name and personality of his former incumbent in the swamp. The newborn Vargheist begins to hunt, desperately trying to sink its fangs into the veins of mortals. At the first taste of blood, the transformation is made permanent - what was once a proud lord of the dead is forever cursed to existence as a ravenous beast.

Although every Vargheist emerges from their prison much stronger physically, they are invariably weaker mentally. After centuries of thirsty captivity, all they really want to do is eat. These creatures are thus easily bound to the will of their jailer, and are sent into battle in packs to feast on those foes foolish enough to stray too far from the sanctuary of the main battle line. Vargheists make formidable fighters, their raw anger and terrible hunger undiminished by the control of their cruel, vampiric masters.
