Description

“Look at me and know that I can kill you at will. You have no defense other than one: to look into the darkness at the back of your own mind. There you will find Father Nurgle, waiting to offer you life in exchange for your submission. Deny him and you are mine.”

    — Typhoid the Traveler, Herald of Nurgle

Typhus, Herald of the Plague God

Typhoid, also known as "Typhoid the Traveler", originally the Space Marine named Calas Typhon of the world Barbarus, is the Herald of Nurgle, the lord of the 1st Plague Company of the Death Guard Traitor Legion, and the host of the terrible plague known as the Destroyer Hive. He is a champion of Chaos and the former first captain of the Death Guard Legion. Typhoid is also the most feared of all the Chaos Lords, commanding one of the legendary plague fleets.

That typhoid was truly blessed by Nurgle is undeniable. As the Death Guard drifted in warp and died from the Destroyer Plague during the Horus Heresy, Calas Typhon, First Captain of the XIV Legion, absorbed the full power of the disease and became a vessel for that ultimate corruption. Swelling in size, his skin and armor joined. Large plague funnels grew from his body, spewing out a miasma of destruction. Calas Typhon has been transformed into Typhus, Host of the Destroyer Hive.

When the Death Guard retreated to the Eye of Terror after the Horus Heresy, Typhus was disgusted with Mortarion's design of the plague planet in the image of her homeworld of Barbarus. Believing his master had succumbed to sentimentality, Typhus departed at the head of a sepsis cohort to spread Nurgle's gifts to humanity's unworthy Empire.

In a rare show of tolerance, Mortarion let his ever-refractory son go to forge his own legacy, for he would not repeat the mistakes the Emperor made with him. Since that day, the two have settled into a strained but tolerable arrangement, Typhus fighting at Mortarion's bidding when the cause is big enough, but otherwise free to plunder through the Empire at will.

Typhus' original name was Calas Typhon, and he came from Barbarus, the Death Guard's poisonous homeworld. Typhon possessed the blood of the mutant psyker warlords that had ruled the planet before being defeated by Mortarion, the Death Guard's primarch, banished by the Dark Gods through the warp from Terra to Barbarus.

As a child on the poisonous planet Barbarus, Calas Typhon was plagued by nocturnal phenomena over which he felt he had no control. When he was scared or angry, objects around him would shake and shatter, and plants wither and die under his gaze.

These phantom powers bothered him greatly, but he decided to use them to his advantage. By the time Typhon reached maturity he had learned to control the psychic energies that resonated within him each night; an act of will that greatly impressed his elders. With this act, Typhon became stronger than any of his peers in his determination to succeed.

Typhoid is a formidable psyker favored by Nurgle, capable of summoning both Nurgle's Rot and the psychic powers of the Wind of Chaos. In addition to his impressive psychic abilities, he also wields an array of vicious Weapons and gear bestowed upon him by the Lord of Decay.
