Knowledge is power, so the saying goes. For the adepts of the Priory, this is not just a metaphor—it is the literal truth. For generations, they have curated their knowledge of Mythos, a force that will save humanity from the predations of the Old Ones.

Throughout history, shamans, soothsayers, skalds, and scholars have held pieces of this ancient power but remained unaware of its true purpose. Those fortunate enough to wield it glimpsed behind the veil, barely retaining their sanity. As humanity's arrogance grew and technology gave the illusion of safety, the ancient knowledge of Mythos was abandoned. The Priory, under the guidance of their mysterious coordinator Madame Adrestia, has been tasked with preserving this wisdom, reminding the world of the dangers lurking in The Shadows, and fighting them at every turn.

The Priory is an ancient organization, with members spread across the globe, operating in isolated, self-contained groups known as Cells. Communication between Cells is rare, and recruitment is the responsibility of each Cell’s leader. Professor Zachary Lazarus has led his Cell for over a decade. A scholar of the arcane and occult, it is Lazarus who receives cryptic phone calls from Madame Adrestia, detailing the Cell’s next mission. Lazarus is known for his iron will and Bohemian tastes, often seen deep in conversation with his cat Zeus—a curious creature that seems to understand the Professor’s commands and even carries out tasks of infiltration and observation for the Priory.

The anarchist-archaeologist Abigail Halsey is another invaluable member of the Lazarus Cell. Her discoveries and research have often been instrumental in overcoming the many challenges the Cell faces. Abigail’s greatest find was the journal of Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel, which revealed the Mythos secrets for creating the Golem Maharal. This fifteen-foot-tall animated clay behemoth provides the brute force the Cell needs during their missions. What Maharal lacks in subtlety, it makes up for with raw power.

Bertie Smythe, a decorated pilot from the Western Front, is another member of the Cell, though forever changed after a mysterious dawn encounter in the clouds. He refuses to speak of what he saw or the fate of his squadron. Now, Bertie wields a flamethrower, fueled by hard liquor and endless cigarettes, determined to right the unspeakable wrongs of that morning. Maintaining such Weapons, along with the Cell’s other Equipment, is no small task, but they can rely on Kitty Page, the Cell’s newest recruit. After a mission in Providence against the Path of Chronozon, Kitty joined the group, eager to contribute, and while still learning about their war against dark forces, she finds comfort in knowing that their mortal enemies are as vulnerable to bullets and flames as anyone else—except Maharal, of course.
