The TX7 Hammerhead Gunship is the T'au Empire's anti-gravity main battle tank. First encountered by the Empire of Mankind during the Crusade in the Gulf of Damocles, it has been used in almost every campaign against the enemies of the T'au since then.

Like a hungry predator on the prowl, the Hammerhead gunship is a menacing sight. It glides across a planet's surface, its massive turret-mounted main gun oscillating to pursue potential targets.

The Hammerhead Gunship is the T'au's primary battle tank, and any foes it encounters will quickly come to respect, if not fear, the power of its main armament - the dreaded railgun.

Hammerheads combine the twin principles of maneuverability and overwhelming firepower so prized by the T'au, and squadrons of Hammerheads accompany most Hunter Cadres in the field; tasked with the rapid elimination of enemy tanks, armored walkers, and massive monsters that might otherwise threaten a T'au advance.

Hammerheads are a welcome sight among Fire Warrior and Battlesuit teams alike, their crews dead-eyed and their powerful weaponry more than enough to reduce even the most fearsome enemy war machines to smoldering wrecks.

The Hammerhead is an extremely efficient main battle tank. It has a well-deserved reputation as a tank killer when armed with a railgun. However, it can be outfitted for a variety of tactical tasks ranging from infantry repulsion to eliminating specialized targets such as heavily armored enemy walkers.

It is common for at least a few Hammerheads to be deployed in support of Fire Warrior teams. Although well armored, a hammerhead is most often kept at a distance to take advantage of the superior range of its weapons. There are many reports of hammerheads destroying enemy armor with almost contemptible ease.

Although a Hammerhead gunship performs well in tank duels, the T'au's combined arms approach demands much more from their main battle tank than just anti-tank capability. It was the legendary Commander Puretide who said, "Even the fiercest horde attack can be broken by the application of firepower," and a railgun's submunition bursts can tear enough bloody gaps in charging formations to stop an oncoming orc WAAAGH! or crush a whole wave of smaller Tyranids.
