Kurnoth Hunters
Free spirits who fight at the command of the Everqueen herself. Strong, swift, and incredibly skilled, these warrior spirits embody the power of the hunter god Kurnoth in every blade swing and bowshot, slaying their foes with frightening efficiency.
One of the few deities worshiped by the Sylvaneth alongside Alarielle, Kurnoth represents the ferocity and hunger of nature. The Kurnoth hunters are living incarnations of his wrath. Almost twice the size of a Dryad, masters of sword, bow and scythe, they are strong enough to tear a Chaos warrior in two and tough enough to deflect the hardest blows. Nimble, graceful, and stoic, they display little of the temper of some of their peers—they show absolute determination, calm as ancient oaks, focused on their battles.
The Kurnoth Hunters travel in small bands and precede Alarielles Wargroves. Some of their mother goddess' spells add speed and subtlety to their movements, allowing them to slip through all but the most heavily guarded Terrain undetected. They then watch the enemy's movements with infinite patience before choosing the perfect moment to strike.
When fighting, the Kurnoth hunters show none of the capricious tempers of some of their kin. They always have a purpose, a mission, and a carefully considered method. Calm as an ancient oak, sure as the seasons, the Kurnoth hunters lure their victims into traps and strike swiftly from ambushes.
As well as being exceptional scouts, the Kurnoth Hunters also serve as the Everqueen's executioners. Should an enemy warlord be deemed too dangerous to live, or a culprit of great misery against the Sylvaneth discovered, the Kurnoth hunters have their queen's permission to declare the Wild Hunt. At such times, all Sylvaneth are compelled to channel their might in the hunters' quest, and will not rest until their prey is cornered and slain.
Though taciturn and strange even by Sylvaneth standards, the Kurnoth hunters are deeply focused beings through which the spirits' song reverberates with full force. They worship their living goddess and give themselves entirely to their will. They also praise their soul father, the hunter god Kurnoth, and consecrate those who died in battle as offerings on his altar. Across the Mortal Realms, many Sylvaneth observe rites for minor deities and demigods of cycles and seasons, but their open worship of another deity causes some to distrust the Kurnoth hunters. Alarielle vouches for her most warlike sons, and that is enough for most, but there are still those who view the newcomers with suspicion, despite all their great victories against the forces of chaos.
Kurnoth hunters go to war in units of at least three warriors, led by a huntmaster. Some units wield Kurnoth Greatswords while others wield evil Kurnoth Scythes. Others attack from afar, losing arrows from Kurnoth Greatbows, while their quiverling companions attack nearby enemies with their vicious claws. They can also protect themselves by sprouting a dense network of thorny branches.
