Stormcast Eternals Vanguard-Raptors
With sharp and expert aim, the Vanguard Raptors hunt their prey. Aided by the enigmatic Aetherwings, they unleash deadly precision shots from unseen vantage points. The Justicar Conclave of each Vanguard Auxiliary Chamber is composed entirely of Vanguard Raptors; Squads of reclusive riflemen bringing impressive ranged support to the battlefield. The Vanguard Raptors are the first gust of the hurricane, raining death on the enemy before the storm winds hit full.
Fully focused on their role on the battlefield, the Vanguard Raptors have honed their skills through relentless campaigning. But for every warrior there is a natural path. For some Vanguard Raptors, the instinctive hunt mode is close and immediate, supporting their allies with quick bursts of firepower. These warriors wield hurricane crossbows that can fire devastating volleys straight into enemy battle lines. Infused with celestial sigmarite, her bolts can pierce plate and bone alike, disrupting the most disciplined ranks. For others, the auspicious strike is what's well-timed and unheralded, and for that role the fearsome long-stroke crossbow is the perfect weapon. Standing at secluded fire sites, Vanguard Raptors are thus lightly armed, able to take down priority targets with a single devastating bolt. Their aim is so sinister that some attribute their supernatural accuracy to the influence of the Aetherwings that soar high above them.
Wherever a Vanguard raptor hunts, a noble Aetherwing is never far away, adroitly peering above the fray or defending the Stormcasts with beak and predatory claw. The bond between these birds and the Vanguard raptors is truly fraternal, each respecting the other as a natural predator. The parallels are also strong in temperament, for like the Vanguard raptors, Aetherwings are separate creatures that prefer to keep their own council. Their home Bases are the highest bluffs of the Star Mountains in Azyr, and it is also where the Vanguard raptors make their home, furthest of any ranger from the lights of Sigmar's major cities.
It is indeed rare for Vanguard raptors to descend from their high roosts and roam the streets of Azyrheim, and when they do they carry a distant and mysterious aura. But they never delay long, as Aetherwing nesting sites must always be monitored, for reasons no Vanguard raptor will reveal.
