Gardus Steel Soul

Gardus Steel Soul is the Stormhost Lord-Celestant of the Hallowed Knights of Stormcast Eternal.

At the start of the Realmgate Wars, Gardus and the Steel Souls were sent to Ghyran to free the Gates of Dawn from Nurgle's grasp. The battle was fierce when the gate was damaged leading to Nurgle's garden. This allowed the Great Impure Bolathrax to invade Ghyran. With all seemingly lost, Gardus knew the only way to victory was to close the realm gate and stop the enemy's reinforcements. To that end, he dueled Bolathrax alone, but any wound he inflicted on Bolathrax would recover. Seeing no other option, Gardus threw himself into the portal. Bolathrax tried to follow him, but his large size became his undoing as he tried to get through, breaking the realmgate. Gardus was trapped inside the garden for some time, but soon escaped.

Upon returning, Gardus revealed that he had found Alarielle's location. He and several Stormhosts made their way to Athelwyrd after traversing Rotwater Blight, clearing the Oak of Ages past and clearing the River Vitalis. When they reached Athelwyrd, they found they had been pursued by armies of Chaos who allowed their corruption into Athelwyrd and Alarielle's verdant palace. There Stormcast Eternals and Sylvaneth fought in the Battle of Athelwyrd. They were soon driven out, with Alarielle turned into a soul pod and Gardus killed and reforged.

Along with the Anvils of the Heldenhammer under Lord-Celestant Thaddeon ven Denst, Gardus and Parts of the Steel Souls were dispatched to the great Green Torc in the Scabrous Sprawl. There they were lured into a trap in Arachnias by the Beastmen, where they were surprised by Spiderfang Grots. Gardus ordered Thaddeon to leave to continue the mission while the Steel Souls held the Grots back.

After losing battles with the Grots under their chief Spitterakk, Gardus gave the order to break off the fight and jumped off the edge of the torque with the few remaining men

After reincarnating Alarielle into her war aspect and then retaking much of Ghyran, Lord-Castellant Grymn led the Steel Souls to the Plains of Vo. There they helped the Sylvaneth destroy the corrupted city of Gramin. Then the Steel Souls moved to their true destination in the Green Bay, the citadels of Sargasso. As Grymn attacked the citadels from the gate, Gardus and the reforged brothers of Steelsouls, including an old foe, Torglug the Scorned, now Tornus the Redeemed, descended from above and with their combined might crushed the Order of the Fly forces invading the citadels held. In a last gamble, the leading knight defending the citadels, Bubonicus, gave his life to connect the Realm Gate, the Gate of Weeds, beneath the citadel to Nurgle's garden. He succeeded, but by then the Steel Souls had secured the citadels and Grymn was drawn in trying to close the gate.

Gardus, now back in command, ushered in the Steel Souls to bring back the lost Lord-Castellant. After trekking through all seven levels of the Garden, Gardus Steel slew Soul Father Decay, the Hand of Nurgle, freeing Grymn from his grasp. Gardus then led the Steel Souls out of the Garden and out of the citadels, which collapsed with the Gate of Weeds.

With the Genesis Gate closed and much of Ghyran returned under the control of the Order, Sigmar turned his gaze to Shyish. While Sigmar prepared himself, Gardus used the time between battles to return to Demesnus. There he discovered that he was being worshiped as Saint Garradan by some Sigmarites who had settled in the ruins of his hospice. While there, Gardus killed an agent of Nurgle who was cultivating a Nurgle demon among the ruins of his hospice.
