Ripperdactyl Riders
Ripperdactyl Riders are among the largest and most fearsome aerial warriors to have ever flown the skies of tropical Lustria.
While Skinks found it relatively easy to train Terradons, turning Ripperdactyls into sky mounts proved far more difficult. While suffering many casualties, Skinks learned that hatched Ripperdactyls could be trained. Even stolen eggs were problematic, as the claw-winged creature inside attacked the first thing it saw after cracking open its shell. If the skink survived, there was a chance the beast would bond with it, although such things took a long time and left many scars. If the Ripperdactyl hadn't eaten the skink after about a year, it accepted it as its master.
The Skinks that survive their bond with their Ripperdactyls are brave warriors, the most elite of their small kind. Once atop a Ripperdactyl, they forgo spears and blowguns, unstoppable for the blood-hungry beasts they ride to pounce on enemies. Instead, they arm themselves for hand-to-hand combat, donning ceremonial helmets and carrying shields and long spears. Led by their Brave, each Ripperdactyl Rider fights with aggressive skill, but they pale in comparison to their mount. A Ripperdactyl's razor-sharp claws can decapitate enemies - their furious attacks often leave a ring of scattered entrails and severed limbs in their wake.
Though Ripperdactyls are ruthless killers bent on devouring anything that moves, there is one foe they target before anyone else. The largest member of the barking toad family, the Lustrous Spotted Toad is a venomous beast known to invade the cliff burrows of Ripperdactyls. Even a single such toad produces an odor almost unbearable for cold-blooded Creatures. When they gather in large numbers, they release enough putrid swamp gas to scare away a hungry carnosaur. For reasons unknown, spotted toads' favorite food is ripperdactyl eggs. Of course, Ripperdactyls look for such beasts and destroy any they find with extreme prejudice. Skinks have learned that by stealthily planting a single such toad, the tiny riders can target an enemy unit on who is most likely to bear the brunt of the Ripperdactyls' screeching fury.
