“We are mute but not without strength, we are silent but not without determination, we are untouchable but not without courage, we are sisters and have only one father. We are seekers and we shall find our prey, we are warriors and woe to those we fight, the mark of the Emperor is upon our foreheads, all who deal with the warp must beware, must have his judgment and his vengeance we deliver!"
— Motto of the Sisters of Silence
The Sisters of Silence are an all-female Chapter of Imperial witch hunters tasked with hunting down rogue psykers and other psychic threats across the galaxy. They also help enforce the Empire's strict laws on the use of psychic powers.
The Silent Sisterhood was most active during the time of the Great Crusade in the late 30th and early 31st millennium. In the wake of the Horus Heresy, they became far less active in Imperial affairs to such an extent that for most of the last 10,000 Terran years the order was erroneously considered disbanded.
However, the Sisters of Silence have recently returned to prominence in the human empire following the birth of the Great Rift and the beginning of the Indomitus Era.
The original purpose of the Sisters of Silence was to hunt down and slay renegade human psykers whose activities posed a terrible danger to the humans of humanity's newborn Empire, and to oversee the tithes of psykers from all Imperial worlds to Terra.
At the time of the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy, the Sisterhood was overseen by three General Officers: the Sister Commander, the Lady of the Black Fleet, and the Nemesis Praxia. Among them were two different groups. The first was the Chamber of Oblivion, which operated battlefield units led by Oblivion Knights and Knights-centura. The second was the Judiciary Chamber, which set up the dreaded silent judges of the Excruciatus.
The sisters' organization involved the division of their members into numerous cadres such as the Storm Blades, each containing different armor schemes. The largest primary operating unit of the sorority is a vigil, which comprised approximately 1,000 sisters. The exact size of the Sisterhood at the end of the Great Crusade is not known, although it numbered in the tens of thousands. Currently, the Vigil Indomitus, the largest vigil of the modern Sisterhood, consists of over 3,000 warriors.
While each vigil differs in identity, traditions and history, they are all divided into a series of frames and each frame is given a unique designation before absorbing the vigil's historical hues. The Cadres are corporate-level bodies, although it's rare that they ever fight as a unit. Instead, they take on specific tasks, such as investigating violations of the Great Tithe, hunting down rogue psykers, or purging a region of psykers.
The kit can optionally be assembled as Vigilators, who specialize in melee combat and wield executioner greatswords, and Witchseekers, who wield flamethrowers for devastating multi-target attacks. It contains 6 Executioner Greatswords, 5 Umbra Pattern Bolters and 5 Flamethrowers. This kit comes as 67 components, and is supplied with 5 Citadel 32mm Round bases and a Burning of Prospero transfer sheet.
