Space Marine Predator
the Predator Destructor, commonly referred to simply as the Predator, is the primary battle tank used by the Space Marines of the Imperium of Man and the Traitor Legions of the Chaos Space Marines. It is a more heavily armed and armored version of the Rhino armored personnel carrier.
The Predator Destructor is the most common variant of the Predator used by the Space Marines, and its long-barreled Syrtis Pattern Autocannon main armament, also known as the Predator Cannon, makes it most effective in an anti-infantry role.
All Rhino and Predator variants are based on designs originally created during the Age of Technology using Standard Template Construct (STC) database designs. The tanks can be built on forge worlds of the Adeptus Mechanicus or in a Space Marine Chapter's own forge, and are then sent to the Chapter's armory until needed.
A chapter will typically maintain around 20 to 30 Predators of all types at any one time. The Forge Master is responsible for all vehicles in an Order and makes these vehicles available on request, where and to whom they are needed.
Space Marine Main Battle Tanks are not permanently tied to one company. Instead, they form a pool of vehicles, and individual tanks are available to Space Marine commanders as needed. Upon creation, a Space Marine battle tank is given a name that reflects its role as protector of the Brothers of the Order.
From that point on, the vehicle has been as much a part of the Order as the Space Marines themselves, and over the years its many deeds and victories have been celebrated as much as the Order's flesh-and-blood heroes.
Weapons
The Mars Pattern Mark IVb Predator Destructor is the most common of all Predator types used by the Adeptus Astartes today. The Destructor Pattern is armed with a turret-mounted Syrtis Pattern Autocannon, which features an automatic ammo feeder, muzzle flash suppressor, and discharge extractor.
The weapon is linked to a multispectral range finder and accuracy talisman controlled by the vehicle's commander, who is also the vehicle's gunner.
During the Great Crusade, the Predator sacrificed its low troop-carrying capacity in exchange for more ammo stores, as many Predators were outfitted with sponsor-mounted weapons. This practice became standard, and now all Predators are equipped with sponsor-mounted weapons, which are usually heavy bolters or laser cannons.
The sponsor-mounted weapons are remotely controlled by the tank commander from the turret using a multispectral aimer protected from enemy fire by an armored shroud. The sponsor mounts can be equipped with a variety of weapons, with heavy bolters and laser cannons being the most common.
All variants of the Predator can also be outfitted with a dozer blade, additional armor, a Hunter-Killer missile launcher, upgraded communications gear, a trunnion-mounted storm bolter, a searchlight, and smoke launchers.
