In the year 1787, during the reign of Empress Catherine the Great in Russia, you find yourself in charge of a rather unimpressive village. However, a golden opportunity presents itself when you learn that the Empress is planning a surprise trip down the Dnieper River, passing right by your village. With little time and resources to truly transform your village, you decide to employ a clever ruse to make it seem much more prosperous and impressive than it actually is. After all, it's all about the perception of her Imperial Majesty.
Welcome to Potemkin Empire, where you step into the shoes of a village mayor striving to impress Empress Catherine. Your goal is to convince her that your village is the most thriving and stable in the entire region. Given the imminent visit, there's no time for substantial improvements, so you must rely on smoke and mirrors to achieve your goal. You'll accomplish this by selecting interior cards that can be either real or fake and combining them with facades to construct a grand, albeit fragile, kingdom.
Your path to victory in Potemkin Empire involves various strategies. You'll earn points by producing goods within your industrial Buildings, revealing your opponents' fake Buildings with the help of spies, erecting government and cultural structures, and passing off counterfeit Buildings as genuine ones. The player with the most points when the game concludes will be hailed as the master of this Potemkin Village!
