Panzer Lehr Squad

The Panzer Lehr Division was formed in 1943 from the veterans of the campaigns in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. These highly experienced troops formed the core of this training and demonstration unit and as such were considered an elite force from the start.

In 1944, the Panzer Lehr Division took part in the invasion of Hungary before moving to France to await the Allied invasion of Europe. Unlike other armored divisions in the German Wehrmacht, all of the Panzer Lehr's Panzergrenadiers were mounted on halftracks, making it the only fully mechanized unit in the German Army. They were also the first to fight alongside the new Tiger II tanks. They also wore a distinctive assault rifle-style double-breasted jacket in place of the standard army tunic.
