Lady Olynder is form of despair. She radiates hopelessness and casts a debilitating gloom upon her enemies. Accompanied by banshee maids, the Mortarch of Grief carries the life-stealing Midnight Staff and unknown horrors beneath her veil.

Nagash looked everywhere for a commander to lead his newly risen Nighthaunts, and found none more terrifying than Lady Olynder of Dolorum. As the newly appointed Mortarch of Grief, it is she who rules the spiritual hosts seeking to establish a reign of terror across the Mortal Realms. She is the grieving bride, the unrequited queen, the veiled dame and the mortarch of sorrow. It is despair manifested, gloom given form. She is Lady Olynder, and in her are bound all the sorrows and torments of the realms.

Each of Nagash's Mortarchs has been anointed with a portion of the Great Necromancer's vast power. Lady Olynder, who feigned grief in life, he bestowed a cloak of misery - she now felt all the sufferings of the Mortal Realms and became a weapon of grief herself. Her power transcends the melancholic as she emits mind-crippling waves of sheer despair. Mortals in her presence are overcome with a darkness so heavy that only the strongest of will can remain upright. Most fall to their knees, emotionally battered by their own utter hopelessness. It's a sorrow and regret strong enough to make a mother abandon her child, make a warrior lay down his sword and accept the inevitable to arrest a beating heart.

Lady Olynder levitates above the ground accompanied by her bridesmaids, two banshee maids. As she advances, the thorny tendrils of burial roses immediately sprout before her, their flowers blooming and dying quickly to lay a path of fallen petals beneath her soaring form. In her hands, the Veiled Lady holds the Midnight Staff, an ornate staff crowned with a polished gem of vitrified grave sand. The lightest touch of this staff is enough to wither a mighty oak tree or instantly kill a grown man. But it is not Lady Olynder's deadliest weapon.

In addition to being surrounded by an aura of absolute misery, Lady Olynder is also a powerful sorceress. With her summons, she can cast a veil of despair on her foes, slowing them like an unholy magnet. Those afflicted suffer a mental strain so severe that even the bravest tremble, their fighting spirit weakened by leaden limbs and despair that have no hope of salvation.

Amidst this somber atmosphere she has created, Olynder surges forward, her Banshee bridesmaids screaming howls of the damned while slashing at approaching enemies with ghostly claws. A bridesmaid carries an enchanted Gravesand Hourglass - a gift from Nagash - which can be shattered with deadly effect. But Lady Olynder has another, even deadlier weapon. From behind their thin veil, the Mortarch of Grief's sunken eyes fixate on an enemy. Deliberately, she turns to face them before slowly and solemnly lifting her veil. What horrors they see is unknown, for no one has survived to tell the tale. Thus, Lady Olynder conquers and leads Nagash's invasion to bring a new age of eternal death upon the Mortal Realms.
