A Doomsday Ark is a Necron skimmer vehicle used as a massive, mobile Weapons platform. A Doomsday Ark is nothing more or less than a mobile carriage for a Doomsday Cannon, perhaps the most powerful weapon in the Necrons' formidable arsenal.
Strong enough to bring down a prefab Adeptus Munitorum-standard M.39 “Scutum” bunker in a single bombardment, a Doomsday Ark, if encountered, must be treated before it can move into firing position; because a single salvo can reduce an entire army to rubble.
Whatever their personal eccentricities, all Necron Overlords believe in victory through overwhelming firepower. Some of the Necron's fiercest enemies have claimed that this is simply because the Necron's android forms are a little less than formidable in swirling melee combat.
The truth, however, is that the Necrons, as flesh and as machines, have always won their wars through the relentless use of superior technology.
Since such victories are invariably won from a distance, all Necron codes of battle emphasize long-range superiority. Nowhere in the Doomsday Ark is this more apparent; is one of the most feared Weapons in the Necron arsenal.
The Doomsday Ark shares a basic look with the Necron Ghost Ark, but while the latter's primary purpose is to transport Necron soldiers and perform repairs, the Doomsday Ark exists solely to destroy Necron enemies. In aspect, a Doomsday Ark appears deceptively fragile; Its structure is skeletal and lacks the armor plates of more conventional combat vehicles. But to obsess over this apparent fragility is to overlook the true purpose and potential of a Doomsday Ark.
It's not a main battle tank meant to sit in the middle of a battle line to deal and take hard hits. Rather, the Doomsday Ark is nothing short of a giant self-propelled Doomsday Cannon - a weapon that can win a fight with a single shot. As overwhelming as the Doomsday Cannon is, those facing a Doomsday Ark may find some relief in the fact that their weapon draws on the same power reserves as the vehicle's repulsor engines.
