Mortek Guard
At the heart of the Ossiarch Empire's armies, the Mortek Guard are superior but numerous combat constructs that wage war with unnatural skill. They fight with the might of the living, but without a doubt, fear and confusion that can plague a normal army as the fog of war descends and the noise of battle rages around them.
Each Mortek Guard is a walking mass grave, a soldier composed of the dense bone of the Ossiarch tithe. They gain animus from the broken remains of dozens of warrior souls, a hybrid of warrior personalities who fight as an exceptionally efficient whole. In combat, they can fight as individuals acting on their own instincts, or act with unerring synchrony when their Hekatos leader demands it, swinging their blades with deadly precision to open throats and pierce hearts. At a stern command from their commander, the Mortek Line turns and instantly regroups, facing the enemy with a wall of razor-sharp nadirite Weapons.
The Mortek Guard were engineered to wage Nagash's wars without question or hesitation, but their warriors are not mindless automatons. They are able to think independently, albeit within the framework of conflict, and are granted enough autonomy to ensure they can continue to fight dexterously should their Hekatos leaders and even generals be crushed. This self-restraint is of course carefully tempered during the soul-making process to ensure complete obedience and devotion to Nagash. A Mortek Guard could no more rebel against their rulers than they could spontaneously revert to the various flesh-and-blood beings used in their creation
Mortek warriors are known to never break ranks, even when striding to war through sucking swamps or marching across a carpet of slain enemies. Each warrior wields a nadirite blade or spear in an unbreakable death grip, and their Weapons are imbued with the deadly shyishan magic of nagashizzar. Even a small wound from such a weapon can cause painful and near-instant death as the victim's soul is consumed by the Shyish Nadir's insatiable necrotic energies
The primary role of the Mortek Guard is to defend their masters, for should the Mortisans and the liege lords who command them fall, the Ossiarch war machine will be slowed and deprived of reinforcements. When commanded, the Mortek Guard can form nearly impenetrable bulwarks, lock down their heavy Shields, and even use their bodies as obstacles if necessary. They often gather in shield walls around the Mortisans, allowing their superiors to operate freely behind barriers composed of the same troops that serve them. Approaching these ad hoc defenses means seeing witch lights glow brightly in the eye sockets and thrusting Weapons forward to impale those who would harm their masters. For though the Mortek Guard is a shield, it is also a blade - one that can reshape the Mortal Realms.
The kit also includes options for a Necrophoros standard bearer to lead the charge and a Mortek Hekatos to coordinate the shield wall and protect the unit from enemy attacks.
This 146-part plastic kit makes 20 Mortek Guard and is supplied with 20 Citadel 25mm Round Bases.
