As the Great Crusade reached its climax at the beginning of the 31st Millennium and the Empire reached its peak in terms of technology and strength, the Space Marines legions found their original suits of Mark II Crusade armor worn out. While some legions chose to continue local production and maintenance, the ancient Mechanicum of Mars designed a new variant that would be called the Mark IV, or "Maximus" pattern, since it was made in the days of the Empire's greatest glory.
In the Mark IV phase of power armor development, Space Marine armor began to take on an appearance similar to that of contemporary power armor patterns in the 41st inflexible armor casing with flexible joints.
This slightly reduced an Astartes' mobility, but was much easier to manufacture and maintain, and the suit was actually lighter and, due to the lighter weight, gave its wearer more overall mobility without reducing the suit's actual level of protection compared to its Mark II- counterpart.
This multi-part plastic kit makes 20 Space Marine Legionnaires, used in Warhammer: The Horus Heresy as a Legio Tactical Squad of 20 models, or as two 10-model units. Each of these Legionnaires is armed with a Tigrus Schema bolter and a bolt pistol, and can also be equipped with many additional components such as combat knives, grenades and pouches, while up to two Legionnaires can each be equipped with a Legio-Vexillum on their backs. Accessories and alternate heads are included, allowing you to build a Legio Tactical Sergeant for any of your squads - the kit offers a range of additional weapon options for these unit leaders, including plasma Pistols, chainswords, power swords, power fists, power claws, melta bombs and combi-weapons in three configurations (flamethrower, melta or plasma). These models do not feature legion markings, allowing Warhammer hobbyists to paint them any color they wish - however the set includes a transfer sheet with 339 optional markings and iconography for the Sons of Horus and Imperial Fists legions.
This set comes as 344 plastic components, and is supplied with 20 Citadel 32mm Round Bases and a Legiones Astartes Infantry Transfer Sheet. These miniatures are supplied unpainted and require assembly - we recommend Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Paints.
This kit also contains components to equip the Legionnaires with up to two plasma guns, two meltaguns, two flamethrowers, two heavy boltguns and two rocket launchers - please note that these options are not available for the Liber-Astartes Legio Tactical Squad -Army Books are usable, but they can be used to build a Legio Veteran Squad, reinforce your Legio Tactical Support Squads or Legio Heavy Support Squads, or build Tactical Squads for games of Warhammer 40,000.
