“I have seen worlds burn and nations crush underfoot, the idols of false gods torn down and kings slaughtered like cattle. ."
Targas from the executioners
A Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought is an ancient Imperial cybernetic ruff used by the Space Marine legions in the days of the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy, 10,000 Terran years before present.
Like the current patterns of dreadnought, the Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought served as the cybernetic sarcophagus for an Astartes who had been so badly wounded in battle that his only chance of continuing to serve the Emperor was to be buried in a dreadnought's cybernetic sarcophagus.
The Contemptor pattern, like much of the technology developed at the dawn of the human Empire, is larger and more powerful than its standard pattern counterparts. The Contemptor Dreadnought was once an important part of the earliest forces of the Space Marine Legion, raised on Terra in the late 30th millennium to launch the Great Crusade.
Such relics are sometimes recovered by the Empire as archeotechs in the late 41st millennium, and then used to supplement the forces of today's Space Marine Chapters.
The few of these dreadnoughts that can still be awakened are marvels from another era, walking reminders of a time when the Emperor strode the galaxy and the Empire was a bright hope. Their numbers may be few, but humanity's enemies still tremble at their approach.
The default Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought comes equipped with a dual-barrelled heavy bolter on one arm and a massive dreadnought melee weapon on the other with a built-in dual-barreled bolter. Smoke launchers and a searchlight complete the standard armament.
A Contemptor's standard armament can be replaced with a variety of Weapons to suit different tactical needs, including a multi-melta, a set of double-linked autocannons, a plasma cannon, a Kheres-pattern assault cannon, a double-linked lascannon, a draining heavy conversion Beamer and a Chainfist with a built-in two-bar bolter. A contemptor can replace its built-in two-bar bolter with a heavy flamer, plasma blaster, or graviton cannon.
Perhaps the most advanced dreadnought engine in the Great Crusade's arsenal, the Contemptor Dreadnought fuses traditional technologies with arcane cybernetic lore. A powerful nuclear reactor powers the Dreadnought's impressive speed and strength while delivering the defensive energy fields that further increase its durability on the battlefield. Armed with a versatile arsenal of Weapons that allows it to serve as a mobile heavy weapon platform, offensive powerhouse, or versatile linebreaker, the Contemptor has found a place in every Legion, regardless of their preferred tactics.
This multi-part plastic kit makes one Contemptor Dreadnought, an impressive walker with a veritable treasure trove of weapon options. The kit offers eight different ranged Weapons to choose from - a Transmuting Beam Cannon, a Gravis Autocannon, a Gravis Bolt Cannon, a Gravis Lascannon, a Gravis Melta Cannon, a Gravis Plasma Cannon, a Kheres Assault Cannon and a Volkite Dual Kuverine - the all can be mounted on one of the Contemptor's arms. The kit also includes two melee fists, each of which can be built as either a Gravis Power Fist or a Gravis Chain Fist, and each wields your choice of built-in weapon – a combi-bolter, graviton cannon, heavy flamer, meltagun, or plasma blaster. The model can even be built with a hull-mounted chaos launcher or a head-mounted spiral target array.

The model's joints, head and power fist digits can all be assembled to offer a variety of poses, ensuring no two Contemptors look exactly alike.
This kit comes as 164 plastic components, and is supplied with a Citadel 60mm Round base and a Legiones Astartes vehicle transfer sheet with 44 optional markings and symbols for the Sons of Horus and Imperial Fists legions. This miniature is supplied unpainted and requires assembly - we recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Paints.
