Once a nobleman of Ulfenkarn, the vain Kritza attempted to undermine the wolf by publicly professing her loyalty while playing the double agent. Far from being an altruistic yearning, his efforts sprang from a selfish desire to ingratiate himself with would-be liberators of Ulfenkarn. However, Radukar was not fooled. Kritza was pummeled within an inch of obliteration by the wolf and was forced to flee.

Kritza hid in a hearse and unknowingly received the blood kiss. Kritza drank the brackish blood of vermin to feed himself. When his body was thrown into a plague pit, his curse had manifested itself in the appearance of the rodents he had feasted on. Kritza fled into the sewers, conserved his powers, and developed a kinship with the rats of the subterranean Swarming Warrens. It was only when Radukar was deposed that he emerged to lay claim to rulership, accompanied by his "vermin tide" - a vast swarm of living and dead rodents.

Now Kritza is playing the role of nobleman again, covering his vile sewer stench with sickening Nulahmian perfumes. Should Kritza be sufficiently wounded, he transforms into a flood of screeching rats that scurry away before regrouping. More than one enemy has thought the Rat Prince killed, only to be suddenly impaled from behind by Kritza's blade while the vampire strode disdainfully over her corpse with a superior grin
