Kill Team Death Korp Veterans
A Death Corps Grenadier is an elite soldier of the Death Corps Imperial Guard regiments of War, originating from the post-apocalyptic Death World of War in the Segmentum Tempestus. Grenadiers are selected from among the ranks of Death Corps' standard infantry squads, usually by their Constable or a Commissar, and recommended for appointment as Grenadier. They also come from veterans and survivors of decimated Death Corps squads and platoons. This is not a promotion as grenadiers still hold the same rank they held prior to their appointment, but based on their experience and veteran status they count as seniority over rank and file guardsmen. After serving with a squad of grenadiers for a period of time, War Guardsmen can then be brought back into service with standard infantry as Constables. Grenadier casualty Figures are very high, and while heavy infantry service is considered a privilege, it is also considered a duty. A War Soldier appointed to a Grenadier Squad cannot refuse the honor and assumes the skull face mask as a symbol of acceptance of his fate. Statistically, eight out of ten Grenadiers are killed in action. The men behind the skull masks have accepted that they are essentially already dead. For the men of the Death Corps of War, Grenadiers are those soldiers who have "lived too long" and who must now prove either extraordinary enough to warrant promotion to a command role, or finally atonement for their people's sins against the Emperor find death.
Grenadiers are used primarily by Death Corps regiments in a heavy infantry role as the leading edge of assault waves designed to smash key enemy defense points during a broader infantry charge. Many Grenadiers already see themselves as martyrs in the service of the Emperor, and will not back down from their duty no matter the odds against them. Breaking with conventional Stormtrooper training, Grenadiers are never deployed via grav-shaft, instead often bearing the brunt of an initial advance on foot or as small tactical units in fast-moving Centaur armored personnel carriers. Grenadiers carry a high percentage of special weapons (like Flamers and Meltaguns, etc.) and will also wield relatively unorthodox weapons like Heavy Flamers in two-man teams. A squad of Grenadiers can also carry an additional Heavy Stubber to increase their firepower. Mortality rates among Death Corps Grenadiers are very high, but it is considered an honor to be inducted into their ranks.
