Katakros strides through the Mortal Realms as a war colossus. Accompanied by his royal legions, this immortal strategist coordinates not only the battle ahead but a vast campaign across the lands. Those who attempt to slay him are either dispatched by his champions or slaughtered by the Mortarch's glaive itself.
Emperor of an immortal elite, Orpheon Katakros goes to war with all the pomp and circumstance befitting his position. Ever since the disastrous chariot attack that took his life, he has distrusted steeds and simply strides into battle with the certainty of a god. It is his habit to take up a commanding vantage point from which he can look down on the battlefield, surrounded by his most prized minions, just as he did in life - though, like their master, they are also long dead.
The regiments of the Catacrosic Army are the Mortarch's blade and shield, for he has no desire to sully himself with violence. Instead, he focuses on more cerebral matters, his indomitable will striving to enliven and inspire his troops whenever he gazes upon them. A catacrosic legion is a perfectly crafted tool of war, a military unit of supreme discipline, led by the genius of a leader with centuries of experience. The supernatural focus Katakros places on the art of war is facilitated by his entourage. To his right is his Liège-Immortis, the high-helmeted champion who commands the Immortis guard who protects him on the battlefield. To his left is his Prime Necrophoros, bearer of the sacred banner of Katakros. Any creature, living or dead, that sees the standard's glittering black capstone on the horizon hears the Mortarch's stentorian syllables clearly in their minds whenever he speaks.
Katakros often wage multiple wars at the same time. Through his Aviarch Spymaster's bird-like messengers, he coordinates overlapping campaigns that span thousands of leagues. Even as he shatters the enemy army piece by piece, he dictates documents for their delivery to his keepers of knowledge, the Gnosis Scrollbearers - for should enough enemies survive to provide a profitable source of tithes, he will seal their fate by taking them himself binds inescapable secret treaties.
In Nagash's eyes, Katakros is the perfect general. He has been recreated in the idealized form of a specimen of undeath - a fact he is well aware of and which further reinforces his monstrous sense of superiority. Should a supplicant crawl enough or prove particularly articulate, the Mortarch can be negotiated. He will subjugate nations as readily through his own twisted form of diplomacy to secure a vassal state - and with it a steady supply of bones - as he will crush them through military action. For him it is one and the same. Either way, he will have his victory in the end.
