Auxiliaries is a term used to describe non-native soldiers in Roman service. The term can be read almost as pejorative these days, but the auxiliaries of Imperial Rome were hard fighting men!
Well-equipped and well-trained, these men, sometimes from vastly different backgrounds and cultures, banded together in powerful units led by Romans. Auxiliary units did a great deal of the fighting, though the legions' glory boys got all the cheering!
Warlord's Auxiliaries can be deployed in any region where the might of the Roman war machine stepped onto its iron-shod sandals. On our box art we show a unit of Celtic auxiliaries stationed in the Middle East patrolling people who didn't just want to oversee one of the auxilia's many tough jobs.
Our 24 auxiliaries are clad in mail and wield the hasta spear and gladius short sword. Bearing the distinctive oval shield, they can be seen on the battlefield supporting the legions or as an independent force in their own right.
