Sneaky Snufflers
The arrival of the Bad Moon is preceded by a sudden bloom of the pale, white-purple fungi known as loons. Ranging from the size of a thumbnail to the height of a mighty iron oak, these luminous fungi spread densely and swiftly throughout the Moonclan's lairs, corrupting even the surface worlds. They burst from any surface, be it dirt, stone, wood, metal, or even flesh. The Moonclan Grottoes value loons as omens of their deity's approach, using them as ingredients in all manner of potions and chewy snacks that infuse those who consume them with brief bursts of intense mania and dangerous confidence.
The first creatures to feel the loons grow are the peculiar beasts known as snufffish. Sniff Squigs are used to eradicate the best magic mushrooms for the shamans. They're little more than massive noses and snapping mouths propelled by wiry little legs. They have keen senses when it comes to mushrooms; Sniff Quigs can be more or less trained to root out those that are useful, while pointing their sizable snouts upwards at those that will cause a grot to vomit slime, burst into bright yellow splotches, babble uncontrollably, burst into flames, or Another alarming way is side Effects.
Particularly enterprising Moonclan grots capture and tame Sniff Squigs, then make a decent living hunting down the best mushrooms for the Shaman's pots. As they wander, these Sneaky Snufflers will inevitably poke their noses into the tightest of passages and crawl spaces, and have a habit of finding cunning routes to the surface and back into enemy strongholds.
Plus, when the evil moon approaches, Snuffle Quigs raise their wrinkled snouts and howl. It is they who precede the many Gloomspite hordes to the surface. Once there, Sneaky Snufflers rush to harvest the bounty of magic mushrooms that grow in the evil moon's light. They will gleefully murder anyone who stands between them and a particularly ripe crop, slitting throats and severing hamstrings with their loon scythes.
Sneaky Snufflers scrape together masses of magic mushrooms over the course of combat, and it's not uncommon to see nearby Skulkmobs yelling for a quick snack mid-fight. These hand out the snoopers, hurling handfuls of various — and in some cases highly toxic — mushrooms at their comrades, and then happily watch the resulting madness.
The Support Unit makes your units fight harder by dishing out Mushrooms to them. With a few Sneaky Snufflers nearby, even a unit of mere Grots can become a terrible force on the battlefield.
