The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Würger, also abbreviated to Fw 190, is a single-seat, single-engine fighter aircraft used by the German armed forces after 1941. Along with its Messerschmitt Bf 109 counterpart, it became the backbone of the Luftwaffe's Jagdwaffe.
In its first engagement, the Focke-Wulf outperformed the Spitfire V, which happened to be the main Allied aircraft at the time, in almost every way. Primarily suited to low to medium altitude combat, the Focke-Wulf proved a superior aircraft until the Allies introduced the Spitfire XI.
