Description

The French army, at the outset of World War II, stood as a formidable force on the global stage. They were well-prepared, boasting a plethora of excellent tanks and artillery, while their infantry divisions were numerous and brimming with confidence, believing they could once again repel the detested Boche, just as they had done two decades earlier in the First World War. However, this war would prove to be a stark departure from the past, as French infantrymen found themselves all too frequently engaged in battles against highly mobile and tactically advanced German armored units, outmaneuvered by the lightning-fast Blitzkrieg that surged across Europe.

For these soldiers, the fight was a matter of honor, both for France and their regiments. Many Frenchmen dug in and persevered, fiercely resisting the relentless German invaders during crucial battles such as Hannut, Arras, Boulogne, and Saumur. Their determination and courage stood as a testament to the indomitable spirit of the French people in the face of overwhelming odds.

Yet, as history would have it, some brave Frenchmen chose a different path, continuing their service under the Vichy French regime, aligning themselves with the Axis powers. This decision elicited a complex mixture of admiration and loathing, as they fought alongside their former foes, now turned allies, against the broader Allied coalition.

Others among them, however, awaited their opportunity to return to France. In 1944, when the Allied invasion commenced, they came back to their homeland, determined to liberate it from the shackles of occupation and tyranny.

In the context of this tumultuous period in history, this versatile plastic boxed set emerges as a tribute to the resilience and adaptability of the French army. It allows you to assemble miniatures representing various facets of the French military, be it regular infantry, fortress troops, chasseurs à pied, engineers, or colonial troops hailing from Algeria, Morocco, or Tunisia. These figures stand as a testament to the diverse and dynamic forces that played a pivotal role in the dramatic events of World War II, showcasing the enduring spirit of the French soldiers who confronted the challenges of their time with unwavering determination.

Box contains 30 multi-pose plastic infantry with plastic bases and full colour waterslide decal sheet.

Models supplied unassembled and unpainted.
