In 1861, the Southern States viewed Abraham Lincoln's election as President of the fledgling United States of America as a direct threat to the rights and way of life of their States. America was no longer united, the Union split as new Confederate States of America were formed in the South, sparking the American Civil War. Lincoln, determined to preserve the Union and end slavery, raised the Army of the Potomac, and brothers fought brothers across the nation. For the next four terribly long years, American armies stomped across American fields and burned American farms while Americans killed Americans in a war the nation had never seen before.
The Epic Battles system allows players to replay these battles on a large scale. The game is based on the well-known, award-winning Black Powder rule system, with some contemporary adjustments to cement the battles in the ideologies of American Civil War doctrines.
