Enlightened Aerial Squadrons
James Spigot staggered across the deck, feeling like what he saw wouldn't be out of place in a dime novel. Strange saucer-shaped craft sailed through the sky, unleashing beams of light that sliced through the Crown Frigates like a hot knife. James was grateful that his large battleship was protected by the combined power of its Guardian generators; ships on the fringes of the battle didn't have such security. The smaller saucers seemed to possess an almost unnatural agility, able to twist and turn, find new targets before the Crown's ships could react. Some of them launched fighters that now buzzed high above his head. The simple sailor Spigot saw one of the larger, disc-shaped flyers approaching, and only now did he realize their size compared to his own ship. Without warning, a bright energy beam, tinted green, burned into the Guardian shield above him. The fighters exploded like fireworks, overloading the Guardian field. The sounds of the battle now roared in James Spigot's ears, no longer muffled by the Guardian field. The last thing he saw was dozens of Metallic spheres dropping from a hatch on the bottom of the larger saucer. The last thing he did was pray.
