Easy to Build: Reikenor the Grimhailer
In his lifetime, Reikenor was a wizard king, a champion who denied Nagash his rightful claim. In death, he is a Wraith wizard cursed to lead armies and harvest souls in the name of the Great Necromancer for all eternity.
Reikenor was once a wizard king, rich in knowledge of amethyst magic, and came into conflict with Nagash. Now in undeath, the Grimhailer is cursed to serve the Great Necromancer and act as his supreme reaper of souls. There are few sights more ominous than the macabre ghost wizard on his winged steed, lit by the eerie glow of his mortuary candles.
In Shyish, Reikenor is known by many names - the Grimhailer, the Reaper-wraith, and the Storm Rider among them. Wizard, master of terror, reaper of souls, fallen lieutenant of Nagash - Reikenor is all that and more.
Much of Reikenor's origins are mysterious and lost to time, but what is known is that he was once a learned wizard king trying to conquer death. Through the magic of Hysh - harnessing the light of reason - Reikenor worked to prevent all mortality. His quest for knowledge on the subject was all consuming, and he attracted many acolytes and followers. Eventually, Reikor's attempts to unleash the mechanisms of death angered Nagash himself.
In the afterlife, the Grimhailer still hunts, but now it does so on behalf of Nagash. His prey is no longer the dark mysteries of mortality - instead he seeks out those who transgress against his master. Through his arcane powers, Reikenor can sense those who withhold souls from Nagash, manipulate his necromantic rituals, desecrate his monuments, or commit other sacrileges. Those not in the service of Nagash but who seek necromantic knowledge are particularly targeted.
Discovering blasphemy, Reikenor lunges atop his winged steed, shrieking the syllables of powerful curses while dealing devastating blows with his fellreaper scythe. But even with the slayings of Reikenor in battle, he is not finished - for such unfortunates he has more torment in store.
Through his summons, Reikenor can summon a Wraithstorm - a whirlwind of amethyst magic that stirs up souls recently severed from their bodies. Inspired by Nagash's desire to bring cruel justice to those who offend him or rebel against his wishes, Reikenor's magic incites the departed spirits to brutally attack their former comrades. The spell creates a ghostly whirlwind in which ghostly phantoms slice and Dice the living. Thus, a dark vengeance is in store for those who thwart Nagash.
To aid Reikenor in his assigned quest, Nagash has bound Kyllaron, a wild, winged nightmare, to him. Attached to the undead steed's head armor is a sinister assortment of corpse candles. They are a unique blend of tallow from Reikenor's former apprentices along with a gravesand mix. Indeed, after his soul was claimed by Nagash, it was the Grimhailer's own disciples who were his first target. They too were blasphemers, and Nagash saw fit in their fate. By snuffing out the flame of a corpse candle, Reikenor can end the life of a nearby mortal or siphon off a portion of his own essence—in either case, creating a surge of arcane power to amplify his enchantments. The Grimhailer is now doomed to kill forever, and having to snuff out light and create darkness to do so is a cruel twist that Nagash sees as one of his most just punishments.
Before the timid Necroquake, Reikenor often stalked the Mortal Realms alone. After the rise of Lady Olynder, the Wraithwizard has joined the Nighthaunts, leading processions on their behalf or following missions set by the Mortarch of Grief. So his power is greater than ever.
