It is unusual for the Dwarves to take inspiration from other races, especially when it comes to engineering feats and even more so when it comes to Black powder Weapons. But the Thunderer is the direct answer to the Basilean Gunbrigs and as close to an admission of failure as the Dwarves would ever come. During Golloch's siege of the Golden Horn, it was Gunbrigs who rained heavy fire on the Dwarves while they themselves had no answer. Had they been able to use similar ships against the city, the outcome might have been different. Nonetheless, the Warforges accepted the challenge to improve upon the raw human designs and eventually perfect the Thunderer.
