Dwarf Quarrellers

Quarrellers are dedicated regiments of heavily armored skirmishers and missile infantry in the armies of the Dwarfs. Since their first settlements on the treacherous slopes of the Worlds Edge Mountains, Dwarfs needed a way to drive out the ferocious beasts occupying its peaks from a safe distance. This led to the creation of the crossbow, a powerful and versatile weapon that outclassed the traditional bows used by the High Elves in both size and hitting power.

When called to battle, some Dwarfs arm themselves with crossbows and join the ranks as Quarrellers. These formations rain bolts down upon their enemies with orderly zeal, thinning enemy ranks, punishing flanking units, and engaging in ranged duels. Dwarfs favor crossbows over bows due to their physical stature and the limitations of bows in confined tunnels. The powerful Dwarf crossbow can easily outdistance the puny bows used by Goblins and deliver devastating blows to heavily armored foes.

Quarrellers excel in precision, unleashing hails of bolts, reloading, and firing again with disciplined efficiency. Protected by heavy armor and their own sturdy constitutions, they rarely lose long-range shooting contests, even against more skilled marksmen. Should the enemy close in, Quarrellers are equally formidable in close combat, eager to wield their axes.

Despite the growing popularity of handguns, the crossbow remains favored by many clans. Traditionalists prefer the crossbow's range and the effort required to wind its winch, while less wealthy clans appreciate avoiding the cost of black powder. Quarrellers, with their reliable and powerful crossbows, continue to be a crucial component of Dwarf military strategy, embodying the precision and resilience of their People.
