Crypt Horrors
Clumsy and snarling, the Crypt Horrors come into battle. Their flesh is riddled with jagged bone and dripping blades, these are the knights of their court. Armed not with sword and steed but with claws and fangs, they are monstrous beasts, though loyal and eager to serve their master in battle.
Despite their hunched form, Crypt Horrors tower over their smaller brothers, each a monster of pale flesh and twisted bones. Incredibly powerful, they rip organs right out of their victims and stuff glistening handfuls of innards into their dripping mouths. Crypt Horrors were once ghouls who were fed vampire blood by their vile ghoul king, and as a result were given larger, stronger forms through the power of dark sorcery.
In the depths of their deception, Crypt Horrors believe themselves to be heroic knights who charge into battle clad in shiny plates. As befits their role within the court, they are often first in battle, dashing ahead of the king's foot soldiers to crash into their foes. Here their supernatural toughness and immense strength are put to good use, each swing of their claws opening throats and shattering shields. Counterattacks have little effect, the Crypt Horrors' own bodies quickly heal mortal wounds and even lock onto their enemies' blades. These regenerative powers are a gift of the Abominable's blood flowing through its veins, though it comes at a price. Their muscles and bones constantly twist and grow, spines from their ribs and back dig their way through flesh, just as their claws and teeth dig their way from fingers and gums. Only the attention of the royal slaughterhouse keeps their growth in check, the bones being regularly harvested to make trophies for the king's men.
Crypt Horrors are routinely honored by the king and his courtiers for their service, and are presented with tokens of court appreciation. Precious skulls, crumbling limbs, and crude bone weapons are presented to the Crypt Horrors as trophies, and the most decorated can even climb the ranks to become Crypt Haunters and take the leadership of a Crypt Horror pack. Crypt Horrors lovingly care for these gifts, which they see as pennants, shining armor, or swords. They can even claim such prey in battle, relieving their victims of burdens such as arms or spines. The Crypt Horror can shove its newly acquired trophy, still dripping with blood, through its skin or throat, or it can turn it against its previous owner.
