Description
Whereas hoplites are the citizen-soldiers of a particular city-state, phalangites are its professional army. Hardened and scarred veterans of countless campaigns, Phalangites take everything that makes a phalanx deadly and step it up a notch. Since they do without the hoplon (shield), they can use their pikes, the dreaded Sarissa, in their daily drills while staying in formation. This makes them both a hammer and an anvil, allowing them to retain their defensive nature while smashing the enemy behind an impenetrable wall.
