Chaos Abaddon the Despoiler
Abaddon, also known as Abaddon the Despoiler, formerly named Ezekyle Abaddon, is the Warmaster of Chaos, a Chaos Lord and the greatest champion of Chaos Undivided in the galaxy. Abaddon is the Master of the Black Legion of Chaos Space Marines and is rumored to be the clone-progeny of the Warmaster Horus, the greatest traitor in Imperial history and once his favored son as the first Space Marines Captain of the Legion of the Sons of Horus.
Abaddon is now notorious for leading Black Crusades, the horrific military campaigns in which the normally unruly forces of Chaos unite under his leadership and launch a massive assault against the Empire from the Eye of Terror. The most recent of these attacks, the 13th Black Crusade in 999.M41, led to the fall of the vital Imperial fortress world of Cadia, the birth of the Great Rift that split the galaxy in half, and the beginning of the Noctis Aeterna and Era Indomitus.
Impressive in almost every way, Abaddon possessed a particularly deep voice, was taller, stronger, and bulkier than the average Space Marine, and wore his long black hair in a conspicuously high topknot when not wearing a helmet. He had features similar to Horus's, notably the wide-set eyes and long, straight nose. He often wore a large black wolfskin over his power armor, to which he also occasionally attached a cloak. Abaddon possessed both Power Armor and Terminator Armor, with the former painted in his Legion's standard colors while the latter was primarily colored black. This distinguished him as a member of the elite 1st Company, all of whom wore black armour.
In fact, Abaddon's personal unit was the black-armored Justaerin Terminator Squad, but he usually left command to Captain Falkus Kibre. His colleague Horus Aximand joked that this was because Abaddon was actually too tall to fit in a Terminator suit. Towards the end of the Great Crusade, Abaddon was only seen in his black Terminator robes.
Since the Heresy, Abaddon has wielded two of the most powerful Chaos Weapons in the galaxy: the Talon of Horus, a combination storm bolter and lightning claw formerly possessed by Horus himself, and the demon sword Drach'nyen. While Abaddon can invoke the forces of chaos in battle, he is not fully corrupted by them and maintains his supposed independence from the forces of corruption. After the Heresy, but before assuming leadership of the Black Legion, Abaddon stared into the depths of the Astronomican for a long time. The experience permanently turned his eyes gold, a result of the Emperor's power.
