Boromir, the eldest son of the Steward of Gondor, is arguably the mightiest warrior of the Fellowship. He was sent to Rivendell as a result of his father's prophetic visions and attempted to use the ring as a weapon against Sauron. Desperate to carry out his father's will, Boromir urges that the ring be taken to Gondor. But it was his desperation that allowed the ring to poison Boromir's mind, driving him insane - and bringing him down.
