Avatar of Khaine
An avatar is the term normally used for the physical form possessed by the spirit of an Aeldari god and animated in realspace. This term is most commonly applied to the physical body possessed by a fragment of the spirit of the Aeldari deity of war and discord Kaela Mensha Khaine, although the term can actually be applied to any divine entity of the warp that finds a way has to take a physical form on the plane of mortal existence.
By far the best-known avatar is that of Khaine, but recently a new Aeldari god, Ynnead, the god of the dead, began to awaken. Ynnead also has an avatar in the material world known as Yncarne.
At the heart of every Craftworld sits the Avatar, his own incarnation of the bloody Aeldari god, Kaela Mensha Khaine. Awakened from his throne of smoldering iron, the Avatar leads the warriors of his Craftworld into battle. Huge and all-powerful, the Avatar is a god incarnate, the embodiment of the Aeldari racial soul and a deadly foe to even the mightiest forces of Chaos.
She is said to have died into her own after the birth of the Chaos God Slaanesh, "She who thirsts", during the fall of the Aeldari in the 30's, just as she had the souls of the Aeldari themselves. But the god of war and discord, Khaela Mensha Khaine, was too strong to be destroyed forever. So, Khaine's spirit fled the warp and found sanctuary in the Infinity Circuits, the psychically reactive Wraithbone hearts of the remaining Aeldari Craftworlds.
Wherever his essence ended up, a Wraithbone artifact was created in the form of a large statue of the god, allowing future Aeldari to summon a fragment of the spirit of Khaine back into the Materium to defend his race if a Craftworld one special faces dire crisis.
These fragments of his mind can be summoned into realspace by the Aeldari from the Infinity Circuit at times of great peril, where they rest to inhabit a physical body that fights for them. These are the avatars, a single fragment of a true Aeldari god. The Aeldari of Craftworld summon the Avatar in times of dire need by sacrificing an Exarch to Kaela Mensha Khaine on the eve of battle. After this blood sacrifice, the avatar becomes a fiery, animated manifestation of the god and leads the armies of the Aeldari into battle.
This kit builds an Avatar of Khaine that can be built with a choice of three different heads - a classic helm with a plume and headdress, a more martial helm with a decorated crest, or a bare head with a wild mane and flowing topknot. The Avatar's divine weapon, the Wailing Doom, can also be built in one of three forms - a gigantic sword, a vicious axe, or a sweeping spear, each marked with sinister runes of power.
This set comes as 53 plastic components, and is supplied with 1 Citadel 80mm Round base. This miniature is supplied unpainted and requires assembly.
