Leman Russ Exterminator
Overview
The Leman Russ Exterminator is a variant of the Astra Militarum's primary battle tank, the Leman Russ. Named for the Primarch of the Space Wolves Chapter of Space Marines, the Leman Russ, the Leman Russ is one of the most widely used armored vehicles in the Empire of Mankind. The Leman Russ Exterminator variant differs from the standard Leman Russ pattern in that it is armed with a set of turret-mounted, twin-coupled autocannons as its main weapon, as opposed to the standard main battle cannon.
The Leman Russ Exterminator is one of the most common Leman Russ variants, and while it sacrifices the ability to effectively engage enemy armor, it is an extremely effective anti-infantry vehicle. The Leman Russ Exterminator is capable of putting down a devastating hail of fire. The Exterminator's autocannon shells can penetrate a lightly armored chassis as easily as flesh and bone. Although the Leman Russ Exterminator does not have the long range of some other tank variants, it is capable of destroying entire lines of enemy infantry before they reach the Astra Militarum lines.
Because the tank's main armament is much smaller and lighter than the battle cannon typically carried on the Leman Russ, the Exterminator is slightly faster than most Imperial main battle tanks, and this quality allows it to be used as a heavy reconnaissance vehicle. In times of need, Imperial commanders have used the Exterminator's high rate of fire as an effective if crude anti-aircraft weapon, though it lacks the altitude needed to provide adequate cover from enemy airstrikes.
