Walter Borchers flew Me110s with ZG 76s in the early stages of the war and in 1940 scored 10 victories in the air battles over France and Britain in late 1941, although Borchers did not score his first nighttime victory until March 1943. After that, its tally grew rapidly, including several American four-engined heavy bombers. Borcher's victories increased to a total of 46 by March 1945. Shortly after capturing his 46th enemy near Altenburg, he was shot down by an RAF Mosquito night fighter and killed.
